ABC11 Eyewitness News Anchors Featured In Women’s View Magazine Column

ABC11 Eyewitness News (www.abc11.com) has announced that anchors Tisha Powell, Frances Scott and Amber Rupinta will be featured in a monthly column, titled “Moms On The Go,” for the Fayetteville-based Women’s View Magazine. The three working mothers will rotate each month, writing about their experiences as moms in the workforce and the challenges they face while maintaining a career and a family. They will provide advice to moms who may struggle or who are looking to improve with sustaining a balance between their work and home life, as well as tips on ways to avoid particular situations that often affect working mothers. The first column, written by Powell, will be included in the June issue and will provide advice for moms who need summertime childcare.

- Rupinta joined ABC11 Eyewitness in February 2004. She anchors each weekday at 5 a.m. on Eyewitness News This Morning. She has covered such prominent stories as presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton battling for N.C. voters, Hurricane Ophelia, a terrorist attack at UNC-CH, the Conagra plant explosion, and the Carthage nursing home massacre that left eight people dead.

The Beacon Show, A Talk Radio Program Produced By The Chicago Lighthouse’s CRIS Radio, Finds Its New Home At WCPT – AM and FM

Recently switching to the airwaves of WCPT, The Beacon Show is airing from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, every Sunday. Geared toward the interests of veterans, seniors, and people who are disabled, The Beacon Show covers a wide range of disability issues, primarily focusing on vision and hearing impairment.

Some topics covered during the show are law, policy, access, specific disabilities, guidance and advice, as well as events and services offered by The Chicago Lighthouse and other organizations serving the blind and visually impaired community. Adding to aforementioned subjects, technology for people who are blind or visually impaired is reviewed and discussed in a segment titled “Tom’s Corner” in which Tom Perski, Lighthouse’s director of rehabilitation, contributes his critiques and expertise as a guest of the show.

Politicians, professionals within various fields of disability, representatives from organizations, teachers, and many others experts in their respective fields, also make regular appearances and contribute their knowledge to The Beacon Show.

“We are the only show covering vision loss, hearing impairment, and disability. This show means a lot to a lot of people, and many more can benefit, can learn something new, can feel part of a community” stated Bill Jurek, a legendary name in broadcasting who is also the Beacon Show’s producer and co-host with Lainie Williams, Kevin DePhillips, Edie Manzano, and Sue Lamm.
