First American Plastics, a Top Injection Molding Company, Featured in Manufacturing Today

First American Plastic Molding Enterprise, a leading plastic injection molding company, announces its feature in the spring 2010 issue of top industry magazine Manufacturing Today. First American Plastics specializes in plastic injection molding, a specialized service that produces plastic parts used on a day-to-day basis. From plastic spoons to automotive speaker components, the company is dedicated to maintaining a continually improved process that delivers quality results every time.

The Manufacturing Today story covers First American Plastics’ approach to remaining profitable in a challenging global economy, from continued communication with overseas partners to its focus on employee education and environmentally-friendly solutions.

“The First American Plastics team is thrilled to be featured in Manufacturing Today. We take pride in our cost-effective approach to delivering our services,” says Steve Erickson, Vice President of First American Plastics. “While other companies are moving their production overseas to help cut costs, we maintain production at home as well as offer the option of molding services from our partners in China, with whom we remain in constant contact. Rather than move our production process further away, we focus on extensive training for our in-house production team to produce high-quality results on a timely basis.”

Another solution that First American Plastics has employed to help cut expenses and remain profitable is sustainability. The company’s recycling efforts have reduced trash pick-up from five days a week to three, and the installation of motion detectors keep lights off when not in use. Finding solutions that help reduce costs, waste and energy use has been beneficial to both the injection molding company and the environment, which the First American Plastics team is proud to stand by.

“Our approach does not involve cutting costs by sacrificing quality and service. Our customers rely on First American Plastics because of the way we do business,” says Erickson. “Through extensive employee training and education, systematic process controls multiple certifications that we constantly adhere to, and a sustainable process that delivers results on time, we have driven down costs while still keeping our customers satisfied.”

New DustPruf Conveyors from Dorner Give Customers More Today and Tomorrow

The best just got better. Dorner Manufacturing’s new 2300 and 5300 Series conveyors, part of the DustPruf family of conveyors, bring the same industry leading ease of automation, flexibility and performance customers expect from Dorner conveyors plus SmartSlot technology designed into the frame. The SmartSlot provides all the integration and add on capabilities of a T-slot without the inherent drawbacks of slots that collect contaminants or debris.

As implied by their name, the DustPruf 2300 and 5300 Series are essentially “dust proof”, thanks to a streamlined frame design that virtually eliminates all catch points where particulates or debris can collect. A common source of dust comes from corrugate or through the packaging process. Also, many granular or fine particle products often become airborne only to fall back onto the conveyors during manufacturing. Lastly, some environments simply need to be cleaner, such as medical and pharmaceutical production, and the DustPruf design delivers.

The DustPruf Series also operates more efficiently in comparison to other competing conveyors, thanks to an FDA-approved, low-friction coating on the bedplate. Reducing the friction between the bedplate and conveyor belt enables the motor to run 20 percent more efficiently — which lowers energy consumption. Subsequently, the load capacity is 20 percent higher as well with the same motor, allowing for more energy savings over a larger horse powered motor. Plus both frames are recyclable aluminum, which helps ensure a cleaner planet.

The new conveyors are ideal in applications that have dust or debris in the environment or require an occasional wipe-down or spot cleaning. Industries that will benefit from the DustPruf Series include:
- Bakery
- Confectionery
- Pet food
- Clean room
- Pharmaceutical
- Medical
- Health and beauty aids

Since the conveyor frame is smooth with no slots, customers can use the patent-pending SmartSlot system of self-tapping screws and a cordless drill to quickly attach any guiding and automation accessories necessary for their application. A small indentation on the conveyor’s frame directs customers to the best place to install these additional components.

For applications involving curves, the DustPruf 5300 Series gives customers the perfect fit. And similar to Dorner’s 5200 QWIK conveyor, the DustPruf 5300 provides the added flexibility for customers to modify the conveyor’s configuration. What this means to customers is a true cost and time-saving design by being able to modify the conveyor’s length or curve to meet changing line requirements. Customers can change a 90-degree curve that used to go left and make it go right without having to purchase additional components. The SmartSlot system is also featured on the continuous smooth finish on the conveyor’s curves.

Performance specifications of the DustPruf 2300 Series include:
- Widths between two inches and two feet
- Lengths up to 24 feet
- Motor placement at the end or center of conveyor
- Same gear motors, mounts, drive packages and service parts as the 2200 Series
- Recyclable aluminum frame
- Fast five-day delivery from time of order

Performance specification of the DustPruf 5300 Series include:
- Widths between eight inches and three feet (in two-inch increments)
- Lengths up to 83 feet
- End, nosebar, curve and nosebar curve models
- Speeds up to 260 feet per minute
- Same gear motors and mounts as the 5200 QWIK conveyor
- Flexible guiding
- Recyclable aluminum frame
- Fast 10-day delivery from time of order
The DustPruf Series also comes with compatible stands with the same streamlined design and the SmartSlot System for fast, easy installation.

O.Berk Company Announces Acquisition of New Pressure Sensitive Cap Labeler by Custom Decorating Affiliate

O.Berk Company, a full-service supplier and distributor of glass and plastic containers, closures, pumps and sprayers for the pharmaceutical, healthcare, cosmetic, personal care and food and beverage, and household and commercial industries, is pleased to announce the acquisition of a pressure sensitive cap labeler by its custom label and decorating affiliate company, AQL Decorating.

The pressure sensitive cap labeler moves 50-60 caps per minute along a conveyor through a proprietary labeling process. A peel edge device on the machine separates the label from the roll and affixes it to the cap.

The advantages of this new equipment include faster, cleaner, and more accurate centering of a label on a cap than is possible with a label-stamping machine. The label application process is more efficient because air bubbles and wrinkles are eliminated, resulting in less waste and a greater degree of customer satisfaction.

AQL Decorating Vice President & General Manager, Jim Sheehan, stated, “We are pleased to be able to offer O.Berk customers state-of-the-art labeling technology that saves time, effort and money. The result is a cap that looks great with consistent label application from cap to cap and very little waste – something that’s valuable for every link in the supply chain.”
