Continuing Medical Education in Europe – Evolution or Revolution?

Since the late 1960′s, Continuing Medical Education (CME) has been well-designed and implemented. However, since the development of CME in Europe has not been uniform leading to considerable disparity in approach and practice. Although there is a fair amount of published literature (scholarly articles, opinion papers, etc.) covering the global state of CME, much of the literature has been written and published in North America. Therefore, we have identified an important gap in the available literature: a concise and informative White Paper focused on the issues and concerns around CME in Europe.

In an effort to meet this need, MedEd Global Solutions is pleased to announce the release of a cutting-edge white paper on CME in Europe entitled, “Continuing Medical Education in Europe – Evolution or Revolution?” which is intended to be both an educational resource to the reader as well as a practical reference for those in CME.

This resource feature the most up-to-date expert insights from a group of pioneers in the field of CME in Europe such as Thomas Kellner, (Leader of Global Medical Education at MSD), Bernard Maillet, MD (Secretary General of the UEMS), Herve Maisonneuve, MD (Former President of the Global Alliance for Medical Education) and Alfonso Negri, MD (Founder of Rome Group).

NAAFA Announces 2010 Health At Every Size (HAES) Scholar

NAAFA is pleased to announce that Jenny Copeland has been selected as the 2010 NAAFA HAES Scholarship recipient. Jenny is a Psy.D. candidate at the School of Professional Psychology at the Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri.

After witnessing weight bias among her peers, Jenny developed two interventions for use in either a training or academic setting. The first intervention is a 4-hour continuing education workshop, which includes the development of self-awareness with regard to attitudes and beliefs about weight and a presentation of the Health At Every Size Paradigm. The second intervention is a 1 hour academic course designed to provide basic knowledge about weight to therapists in training that was approved by the school administration.

“The caliber of all the applications was outstanding and made the review and ranking process quite a challenge for our selection committee. Jenny’s work and real-time impact really stood out.” stated Lisa Tealer, NAAFA Board Member and Director of Programs.

Dr. Peter Jaberg, Assistant Professor at the School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute wrote in his letter of recommendation that, “Jennifer is one of the most passionate and tenacious students I have met, particularly in regard to her desire to change the practice of mental health…her energy and commitment inspire me to continue to work with her even after my contractual responsibilities for supervision ended.”

Copeland will receive a $1,000 scholarship to continue her graduate studies and research. She will be recognized at the NAAFA convention on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Gala Awards Dinner held at the Westin San Francisco Airport Hotel in Millbrae, California. On Monday, August 9th at the NAAFA HAES Summit Jenny will participate as a session panelist and present a poster of her research.
