The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) recently hired the integrated public relations firm ThinkCannon to handle its public relations and media outreach as well as its social media efforts. Think Cannon has already secured placements in the New York Times, as well as created strategic partnerships with such media names as ABC/Disney in just the first month. In addition, by helping to manage an aggressive digital strategy that includes strategic keyword marketing, social media outreach, and digital optimization, Think Cannon will make sure NEDA is an organization you will hear from.
The National Eating Disorders Association is one of the largest non-profit organizations working to bring an end to eating disorders. NEDA is also working to increase research funding in order to better understand and treat these illnesses. Examples of NEDA’s programs include the STAR program (States for Treatment Access and Research) that works with states legislators and government officials to fight for better treatment and to put early intervention programs into place. It also includes a series of local and national awareness Walks, as well as an ongoing outreach program called The Parent Family and Friends Network, which provides support for those struggling with an eating disorder. Additionally, NEDA toolkits for parents, educators and coaches, as well as their educational initiatives are designed to prevent and ultimately put an end to eating disorders as we know them.
“NEDA has already made great strides in raising awareness of, and supporting those affected by eating disorders,” Lynn Grefe, Chief Executive Officer of the National Eating Disorders Association said. “By bringing ThinkCannon on board, we can do even more by connecting journalists with our network of medical professionals, Ambassadors, and spokespeople. As our tagline states “It’s Time to Talk about It.”
The National Eating Disorders Association’s mission is to support those affected by eating disorders and their families and to serve as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. In 1999, NEDA’s toll-free national hotline launched as an outlet for those suffering who needed assistance.
The organization has much in store for the upcoming fall season. NEDA is gearing up to host its second annual New York City Walk on October 3rd, 2010 as well as its Annual NEDA Conference from October 8-10, 2010 in New York, featuring keynote speaker Naomi Wolf, bestselling author of “The Beauty Myth.”
